About us
Hello! I'm Alexis, owner and lead designer at Tart + Tin. I'm extremely camera shy and prefer to be behind the scenes but here I am, the face behind this business and here is our story:
- I've been in this caking business for 6, almost 7 years now.
- I'm self taught. I had big plans to go to culinary school, but life had other paths for me to take. When my career in mortgage finance ended, I found myself retreating back to my true passion in baking. And I couldn't be happier to have made that decision to never go back to corporate life again.
- I recently took a leap and built a gorgeous kitchen, tasting room and design studio with my amazing business partner, @jacksonevents! We are beyond thrilled to be in our new space and I absolutely being able to create my art out of there!
- I have 3 children, ages 18, 12 and 4! Yes...we really like to space them out ha!
- I tend to be a messy artsy kind of caker, abstract work is my nitch and what comes most naturally to me. I absolutely love blending colors, playing around and finding new ways to elevate a cake to the next level.
- I'm not a girly girl. Like me and dresses don't really go hand in hand. Shocker, right? If you look at my work it's mostly all femme! So I don't know, maybe it's my alter ego? No idea where it comes from!
- I was born with one partially paralyzed arm. It's my writing arm, my painting arm-but it will never stop me from creating my art. And yes, I still carry every one of these giant heavy cakes myself!
- My cakes are derived from recipes l've altered and perfected from over 1000's of bakes. Tweaking and changing them along the way to what I consider the most perfect cake! If you haven't tried them, you're in for a treat! I guarantee, you haven't had cake like mine before!
